Runners gallop for the gravy at the YMCA

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– The 5 ks were abundant this morning.

The YMCA held the 8th Annual Gallop for the Gravy event today. Organizer Alex Mozingo says they had fewer people this year because of weather concerns, but races on Thanksgiving day have become a trend.

Mozingo says they had about 350 people out running this morning for several different reasons.

“Thanksgiving day has now actually become one of the largest days for events like this, Mozingo said. “The idea behind it is get out early burn off the calories before you eat the dessert. This year we’re raising money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Full Belly project, and some scholarships at UNCW and the community college.”

They had participants of all ages including an 81 year old runner.
